Racialization: According to Du Bois (1903), there is an overwhelmingly negative portrayal of African Americans by mainstream America (White world). The consistent negative portrayal of African Americans and the promotion of “White education” and Whiteness in the United States leads to self-hatred and identity crisis in African Americans (Banks, 1981). This means, many African Americans internalize self-hatred and give up their culture (Banks 1973).
