Dr. Colin A. Harris

Journalist, Film Director, Author, Researcher

Dr. Colin Alwin Harris is a Guyanese-American researcher, creator, journalist, author, storyteller, award-winning filmmaker, and businessman. Dr. Harris founded Star Apple Creative and is the host of 'The Black Codes,' a show highlighting the true historical and contemporary challenges affecting the black population in the United States. He is also the creator and host of 'UnRedacted,' a political and social show, and 'Gaff & Laugh,' highlighting funny and uplifting topics and stories. He is also the writer of The Caribbean Net Worth. Dr. Harris was a dedicated active-duty military member and federal civil servant in Florida before embarking on a career as a digital content creator and commentator.

Dr. Colin Alwin Harris was born on June 6, 1974, in Kitty, a district of Georgetown, in the Demerara-Mahaica Region of Guyana, South America. The fifth of six children, he grew up in Bachelor's Adventure, a village on the Eastern coast of Demerara, adjacent to the Melanie Damishana housing scheme. In 1990, he immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, USA, with his family.


Dr. Harris graduated from Prospect Heights High School in 1992, then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1999, when his daughter was two years old. In 2005, while serving in the Air Force, Dr. Harris earned an Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. 

In 2001, he met his wife on Eglin Air Forse Base. They married at the Gulf Breeze Zoo's botanical gardens in Navarre, Florida, in 2003. Today, they live together in Florida.

In 2005, Dr. Harris accepted a civil servant job at the Department of Defense in the Florida Panhandle.

 

After high school, Dr. Harris attended Northwest Florida State College and graduated with Associate degrees in General Studies and Industrial Management Technology. Then, he completed a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Technology from Excelsior College in 2008.

 

In late 2008, Colin Harris began working at the Federal Government of the United States in Orlando, Florida. In 2010, he received a Master of Science in Management from Troy University. While working as a Systems Specialist for the U.S. Government, he was also pursuing a Specialist in Education with an emphasis on Performance Technology and Instruction from The University of West Florida. He completed his Specialist degree in 2018.

In 2018, Colin Harris accepted an interagency position as a Systems and Cyber Security Specialist. In 2021, he received a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of West Florida. In 2021, Dr. Harris retired from civil services and started focusing on research, storytelling, and content creation.
